Kat the DJ?

It's been a minute since I did a proper blog post, so I thought I'd give a little update. 

First off...

"WTF is up with all the Twitch stuff, Kat? I thought you were a home organizer."

Well, long before I was a home organizer, I bought a pair of Technics 1200s turntables and a mixer. I spent my weekend nights at raves and my days digging through crates at record stores trying to find the next great song. 

Electronic music and dance have been my jam since I was a kid in the 90s watching the news telling us "There are kids over in England staying out all night dancing in fields". Little me said, "oooohhhh THOSE are my people". 

I also spent a great deal of time on movie and commercial sets, with the IMDb page and 4 million views on YouTube for our little vampire movie to show for it. Entertainment is in my blood. 

Fast forward to my move from the Bay Area in 2022 after that dude tried to unalive me. Twitch became a lifeline. A community and a dance party all in one. Before that, I just thought it was 15-year-old gamer boys streaming GTA. 

Once I logged on, I was hooked. So many DJs, and that same community vibe from the dance floor many moons ago.

Looking back, every time I went through a life change, I brought out the DJ gear. Move to SF, get CDJs. Breakup? Bring the gear back out. Breakup again in 2022? Get a Pioneer FLX6 controller. Even before the move, I was constantly making playlists. I just couldn't shake it. 

After realizing I wasn't moving back to the Bay Area from Lodi, I set up a studio. Again, just to play, not perform. Yet by February of this year I couldn't ignore the itch anymore and launched my teknokat222 Twitch channel. After kidding myself that I would "never" DJ again, I got hooked into streaming.

With The Simplified Life evolving from just home organizing to our current tagline of "Simplify. Heal. Play", I'm happy to say I'm in the play part of the journey. 

How does it all relate? Well, once we remove everything that isn't serving us or bringing us joy, we have space to heal, and then to play. 

My focus now is playing music for you to declutter to, doing weekly coaching with private clients, and having my organizers, Michelle and Jessica, in the Bay Area to help you with your in-home decluttering and organizing. 

While I love for things to look aesthetically pleasing, my great joy is helping people declutter and get rid of shit they don't need to make room for what they love. Sometimes what they love is new physical things like a DJ studio 😹, sometimes it's clearing space to make room to travel or invite love in. 

All I know is that even with a 15-year career organizing homes, acting and music have always been my first loves. To be able to combine those with giving you an energizing soundtrack to declutter too has been an incredibly fun journey!
